Leading up to the Surgery 

Go to your physiotherapist 

1. It will help with strengthening 

2. You will need a brace fitting/ Sling fitting prior to your Surgery

Prior To getting Surgery 

1. Start with Physiotherapy

  • Will also do a Brace or Sling Fitting

Have a good meal the night before (No Food/ Drink after Midnight)
Day of Surgery 

Arrive 2 hours before your surgery

No food or drink after midnight the day before surgery

Surgery Afer Care 
How soon can I eat a meal? 

As soon as you can tolerate it. If you feel nauseous you can eat easy foods such as; 

- Soups

-Smoothies

-Oral hydration solutions (i.e G2 gatorade)

-Apple sauce 

-Banana's 

-Yogurt 

-plain foods 

How Soon can I have a Shower? 

5 Days after surgery, after you remove the outer dressing and replace it with waterproof bandages

How Long should I wear my sling/brace for? 

Slings & Braces Keep it on for 6 weeks - including sleep 

Only take off to exercise

Items to have at home After Surgery

Brace/Sling 

Dressings 

Ice-bucket 

Soap pump- for easier use for the shower 

Waterproof Bandages

High fibre food/liquids; 

Metamucil or Prune/Peach Juice/Cherry Juice 

Dried apricots/Prunes & Stay Hydrated

Will I be admitted to the hospital? 

No, This is a "day surgery" meaning you will go home the same day of surgery.

How Long will I have to Stay in the hospital? 

You will be held approximately 2-3 hour after your surgery is completed.

What Kind of Anestheic is used? 

General

How long is the surgery procedure? 

All surgeries are booked for 2-3 hours

How long will it take for me to heal from surgery? 

6-12 weeks off work for desk work type activities

4-6 months for more manual labor type jobs.

You'll be wearing a brace and unable to drive for 6 weeks after surgery.
